This seminar will prepare attendees to address the real-world, practical considerations involved in designing boats propelled by electric motors as opposed to internal combustion engines. Topics include:

  • Types of electric drives—outboard, inboard, pod drives.
  • Types of propulsion systems—battery/electric, solar/electric, diesel/electric/hybrid, continuous shore power.
  • Sources of power and energy storage.
  • Battery types, battery charging and battery maintenance.
  • Boat speed, range and boat size.
  • Considerations for commercial passenger boats (T-boats).
